That form-line sees means this one is the closest betting match of the round and while you could make a case for Carlton, they have shown on several occasions this year that they lack the polish required to see a game out at this level. There is also an injury cloud over Blues veteran Kade Simpson. We've taken the more-experienced Kangaroos, who showed signs of improvement last week, to find some form and get the win here.
It is hard to find a negative about the way the Cats are playing at the moment but the Bombers have shown that their best can match it with anyone. Essendon has won their last two against Geelong at this venue but we can't go past the league's highest scoring team. The Crows are back in form after consecutive wins over the Suns and the Saints while Fremantle head east to the city of churches in second place on the ladder after defeating the Dogs.
Adelaide were the top scorers in the league in and over the last fortnight we've seen them get back to somewhere near their best in attack, with scores of and Freo, on the other hand, were a little lucky that the Dogs were so inaccurate last start. The visitors don't have good recent memories at the venue, having lost by an average of 68 points in their last five trips against both South Australian clubs and we can see that run continuing here.
Port have been impressive so far this season and we're backing them to keep it close here. After a brilliant start to the season, when they won four of their opening five games, the Saints came up short against the Crows on the weekend. Things don't get any easier for them here, with a trip to the nation's capital to face the red-hot Giants. The hosts were impressive in their most recent outing, easily accounting for their cross-town rivals and Leon Cameron's side are a short-priced favourite to take their record to five wins and two losses here.
The poor old Demons are having the year from hell with last week's loss to the Tigers their fifth from six matches while the Hawks got lucky against the Blues to take their record to The Bulldogs love Docklands and play the ground better than anyone else. How to watch on Fox Footy: Channel from 1. Saints legend Nick Riewoldt put a lot of the blame on the midfield, with the likes of Stephen Coniglio, Lachie Whitfield and Josh Kelly seemingly not having as much influence on games this season.
Things need to change — fast. It was one of the worst quarters Brisbane have put up since Chris Fagan took over as coach, with Geelong piling on 7. The Lions will be hoping the horrendous quarter is a one-off, given they have a big contest against the under-fire Giants. Fagan is certain to have given them a bake heading into Saturday, so expect a large first quarter from the Lions this week.
He tries his guts out … super talented kid, but if he went back and got some footy for two or three weeks, it might help get him going. Yes, if you ask Leigh Montagna. Elsewhere, Max King is likely to poll well, but for Montagna it is the Gold Coast quartet that should be followed.
To a certain extent. Still plenty of time to turn it around, though. The Roos forward line is somewhat dysfunctional since the season restart, with the absence of Nick Larkey felt on Saturday night as Tom Campbell struggled to have any impact as a marking forward. With Brown struggling to fire, the Roos are set for a bottom four finish unless they can find an avenue to goal.
Carlton was all the rage in the aftermath of their big win over the Bulldogs — and rightly so. They scored plus points for just the fourth time in 83 games, plus they beat a top-four contender by over 50 points in tough conditions. The Bulldogs win came after they knocked off Essendon and Geelong. The reality is David Teague has his team playing a sustainable game style that should be able to match it with most teams in the AFL.
Sure up that defence and the Blues are in business. The Blues, who also have ample forward-half strengths, will provide a good test this week. How to watch on Fox Footy: Channel from 3. Well when you look at who the Hawks have played, you could argue yes. Two of those wins came against the Brisbane Lions and Richmond — and both were pretty convincing wins. Following the Round 5 loss to Richmond, the Demons were lashed for playing in one fast, unsustainable gear.
But they seemed to make some adjustments against the Suns, playing with a lot more patience and moving the footy more judiciously up the ground. But individually, first-round pick Andy Brayshaw seems to have benefited enormously from more midfield responsibility.

The Giants hung in against Port but never really looked likely and their lack of scoring remains an issue just six goals last week. There looks to be plenty of room for improvement with the Giants midfield and this might be the week it all clicks. Captain Coniglio must lift. The Swans were okay against Richmond last week but the injuries are piling up and the loss of Kennedy and Heeney is massive. The Suns look quicker across the ground and many fans will be tuning in purely to see what Rankine can produce second-up after a scintillating debut.
Neither side are travelling as well as their coaches or fans would like, and neither are playing an overly attractive brand of footy. However, Richmond are a side who just seem to find a way against lesser opposition - despite being without a number of their stars.
Carlton were outstanding against the Dogs last week, scoring over points - which is pretty rare in the current climate. They'll need to go to another level though against the Power who always had the game in their control against the Giants last week. A sore Cripps playing below his best makes it hard to tip against Port in this one.
Hawthorn were poor against Collingwood, with the game basically over at quarter time. The Demons on the other hand delivered their best performance of the year against the Suns, with Petracca continuing his red-hot form. West Coast finally saw the best of former Cat Tim Kelly last week, with the smooth-moving on-baller putting on a clinic against the Crows.
Then when Fyfe moved forward against St Kilda, Brayshaw had 14 disposals in the second half alone. A long stint in Western Australia should benefit the Eagles, but a lacklustre effort on Saturday against Adelaide did nothing to suggest they are back to their best footy yet.
They can make a serious statement against a Dockers outfit which is up and about following a big come from behind victory over St Kilda. While it would be a big task to win over St Kilda, given they are set to contend for the top eight, the young guns have the ability to challenge a side coming off a shock loss. Prediction: Both of these clubs look to be premiership chances, with the second-placed Cats super impressive in their last-start win against the Lions, and the Pies fifth demolishing Hawthorn last weekend.
And what a clash of opposites this will be - Geelong boast the league's most potent attack, while Collingwood's defence is the stingiest. The fact it will be played on neutral territory adds further intrigue. Score: Collingwood 8.
Geelong 5. Recap: Jordan De Goey returned from his short layoff to spearhead the Magpies to a point win at Optus Stadium, kicking five goals in a powerhouse display inside the forward While some will question whether he should be playing at all, De Goey was the dominant figure as the Magpies led at every change to record their second straight victory. The Cats could only manage one goal across the first two terms, and also lost skipper Joel Selwood to a hamstring injury, on a forgettable first outing in their Perth hub.
De Goey was ably supported through the middle by Adam Treloar, who had a match-high 34 disposals. Prediction: Tot many would have predicted the Dons to be one of the league's flag fancies, with the Bombers fourth on the ladder but with a game in hand due to the postponed clash against Melbourne in Round 3.
They appear to be more balanced all over the ground and not overly reliant on the slingshot footy of recent years. The Bulldogs, however, are almost impossible to get a read on. When they're able to play the game on their terms, they look as impressive as any team, but if not, they are extremely vulnerable - as Carlton proved with aplomb last Sunday. Score: Bulldogs Essendon 7. Recap: The Dogs have bounced back from last week's point hammering to produce an emphatic point mauling of the Bombers at Metricon Stadium.
A third-quarter demolition secured the Bulldogs victory, but it was Tim English and Marcus Bontempelli's work early that gave the Dogs the edge that saw them secure 11 goals to one from late in the first quarter to early in the last.
Watch the video highlights here. An AFLDraft special! The Lions are set to go in unchanged. Prediction: This is a perfect opportunity for both teams to make a statement after poor efforts last weekend - the Lions capitulated against Geelong, including a shocking third term where they conceded seven goals to nil, while the Giants were overrun by a hungrier, fiercer Port Adelaide outfit.
The Giants are hot and cold, but should be buoyed by the fact they are playing at home, with the Lions losing their only two matches outside of Brisbane this season. Score: Giants The Lions bounced back from last week's lost to the Cats by kicking the first four goals of the game and the result rarely looked in doubt. To highlight Brisbane's dominance, Chris Fagan's side had 22 more inside 50s and 43 more marks over the course of the game.
This is a side which can definitely go deep in Prediction: The already depleted Swans are facing the prospect of finding a way to replace two of their finest players, with Isaac Heeney ankle out for the season and co-captain Josh Kennedy knee set for at least a month on the sidelines. After Sunday's turgid loss to Richmond, Sydney coach John Longmire also had to defend his team's style of play and it will be interesting to see if he releases the shackles against the Suns.
With two losses on the trot, Gold Coast must ensure they don't waste their strong start to the season like previous seasons, but they should have enough talent to overcome the Swans. Recap: Gold Coast's impressive season continued on Saturday afternoon with a 32 point win over an undermanned Sydney outfit. The Suns led from start to finish and have moved back inside the top eight with the four points.
Suns young gun Izak Rankine impressed once again with two goals and 15 disposals, while Lachie Weller and Sam Day also booted two goals apiece. Prediction: Has the sleeping giant awakened? They're still far from their scintillating best, but the Tigers have won back-to-back games and now sit sixth on the ladder.
Much like last year, they are still missing several key players but simply need to keep notching the wins in the meantime and find a way to secure a top-four berth. North, on the other hand are in dire straits, enduring a four-game losing streak and struggling to find any semblance of fluency. The Roos shocked the Tigers the last time these two teams met, but that is unlikely to be repeated.
Recap: Oh boy. It's back to the drawing board for Rhyce Shaw's side who slumped to a fifth straight loss on Saturday night - this one the worst of the lot. Richmond utterly humiliated the Roos at Metricon Stadium, restricting them to just two goals in a point drubbing. Aside from Shaun Higgins who amassed 36 disposals, there were very few positive signs for North Melbourne who appear to have regressed in Meanwhile, the Tigers continue to play themselves into form.
Team news: Carlton will go into Round 7 unchanged from the side that defeated the Bulldogs last week. Prediction: Who would have thought this game would be must-watch TV!? Port have been impressive all year and sit on top of the ladder, but the Blues have also taken some huge strides this season so far.
Carlton's direct ball movement and fierce pressure across the ground was a feature in their win against the Bulldogs, but they'll have to be even better to take the four points against Port on their home deck. Recap: Well, this game certainly lived up to the hype! Despite Carlton's strong form of late, the Blues were under pressure early after conceding three quick goals and it looked as though the game was going to get away from them.
But they fought their way back into the game, with both sides throwing caution to the wind as they formed dangerous attacking raids. Carlton held a slim lead in the dying seconds of the match, but had their hearts in their mouths as Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray lined up a kick to steal the game for his side. His successful goal saw the Power erupt into celebrations in what was a crushing blow to a vastly-improved Carlton side.
